Q: Calibrate is displaying a PrintDlg: 4099 and then crashes.
A: This occurs when you connect to the Calibrate server using Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) when Calibrate tries to print a report.

This is because RDC seems to interfere with the printers on the server.

To stop the crash:
Open Remote Desktop Connection
Click 'Options >>'
Click 'Local Resources'
Unclick the 'Printers' option

Q: When starting Calibrate the error message "Warning! Unable to connect to IP Address. Could not start the web server." is displayed and then Calibrate immediately quits itself.
A: This occurs when there is another web server process running on the machine. This is normally Microsoft IIS when running on a Windows Server 2003 / 2008 machine.

Disable the IIS process/web process and then restart Calibrate.
Q: Calibrate does not run under Windows 2003 Server. It starts for a few seconds and then shortly afterwards quits.

A: There is a security setting that is on by default on Windows 2003 that can stop Calibrate running.

Go to the control panel on Windows 2003
Double click on 'System'
On the dialog click on the 'Advanced' tab
Click on the top 'Settings' button in the 'Performance' section of the page
Click the 'Data Execution Prevention' tab on the new dialog
Click on the 'Add' button
When the file dialog appears navigate to and select the Calibrate.exe file where you installed the application. After clicking OK on the list of exceptions the application will probably be listed as '4th Dimension'
Click OK on all of the dialogs and then run the application as normal. From now on it should run normal

Q: When the web server is run on a laptop with no network cable plugged in then it quits shortly after starting up stating that it couldn't find the IP address. If the network cable is connected then it is okay.
A: fortunately this is a problem of running the web server on a laptop. Windows closes down TCP/IP if no Ethernet connection is active. Therefore when the web server boots up it cannot find a valid IP address so automatically quits. To fix the problem doesn't need an Internet connection, just an active Ethernet port. Using something convenient like an Apple Airport Express would solve the problem. Another advantage of using an Airport Express is that TCP/IP would run over the Wifi network so you wouldn't even need a cable. See http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/ for more details. Alternatively connecting to another laptop or a 100bT hub would work equally well.
Q: When I start Calibrate I get an error message indicating that mykeyname.key was not a valid key
A: This messages means that you are trying to use the key with the wrong version of the software.

Ensure that you are running the correct version of the software. If you are you may need a new key issuing to you.
Q: How do I access the Calibrate web server?
A: To access the web server, make sure Calibrate is running and that you have the necessary licence installed to run the web server.

Open your web browser (IE/Firefox/Safari) and then type in URL of the Calibrate server eg http://194.205.239.101 and the site should load.

TIP: If you are running the server on the same machine as the web browser, you can enter the local host address http://127.0.0.1
Q: After upgrading Calibrate and running it for the first time, it prompts me for a registration number or opens a blank database.
A: Calibrate stores all its configuration in a data file called Calibrate.4DD. If this file is renamed the installer will recreate another blank Calibrate.4DD file which will be used by default by the new version. To use the previous data file, double click on the Calibrate.EXE file and immediately after hold the alt key down. This will instruct Calibrate to choose a different data file. Select your data file and click open and Calibrate will continue to use the renamed data file from then.
